GREEN SPACE

WHAT IS GREEN SPACE?

Green space refers to any area that is covered in grass, trees, shrubs, or other vegetation like the parks and community gardens, found here in Rochdale Village.

WHY SHOULD I CARE?

Parks are emerging as important public health solutions in urban communities.  Research shows that living near nature, including parks, gardens, urban forests and other green spaces, support human health and wellness. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) having access to green spaces can reduce health inequalities, improve well-being, and aid in treatment of mental illness. Some analysis suggests that physical activity in a natural environment can help remedy mild depression and reduce physiological stress indicators. In many urban communities, effort is being made to convert concrete areas back into parks.  Such expensive and difficult endeavors are not needed here in Rochdale Village because green spaces already exist.
